in 2004 there was an earthquake in the indian ocean which affected many people. The earthquake was caused by subduction and triggered a series of devastating tsunmai along the coasts of most landmasses bordering the Indian ocean, killing more than 225,000 people in eleven countries. The waves were up to 100 feet high. It was one of the deadliest natural disaters in history. it had a magnitude of between 9.1 and 9.3 it is the second largest earthquake ever recorded on a seismograph. the earthquake lasted between 8.3 and 10 minutes and caused other earthquakes as far away as alaska. the world helped the people affected by the earthquake by donating more than 7 billion u.s dollars in humanitarian aid.
